Cumberland County faces pressure as the fastest growing county in Pennsylvania. According to the 2021 data from ALICE in Pennsylvania: A Financial Hardship Study, 26% of households in Cumberland County are in poverty or are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE). These households lack sufficient income for safe, affordable housing, and many other basic needs, such as childcare, adequate food, transportation, and health care. A person making minimum wage would need to work 130 hours weekly to afford a two-bedroom apartment. (Source: National Low Income Housing Coalition)
